Help us keep Bournemouth’s water flowing

The amount of water used in the region rises dramatically in summer months. By not wasting water, you will help ensure there is enough of this precious resource to last us all year round. Unfortunately, if reservoir levels fall too far, this can impact the area’s wildlife and increases the risk of hosepipe bans.

Taking a few simple steps to reduce water use during your holiday, can have a great impact

In the bathroom

  • Opt for a quick shower rather than a bath
  • Reuse bedding and towels rather than changing them daily
  • Tell your holiday host about any leaks or dripping taps
  • Turn the taps off when brushing your teeth
  • Use the small flush when you can, on a dual-flush toilet

In the kitchen

  • Use a washing up bowl, rather than filling an entire sink
  • Use the washing machine or dishwasher on ‘eco’, and only run full loads
  • Wash fruit and vegetables in a bowl of water, not under a running tap
  • Only fill the kettle with the amount you need
  • Refrigerate a bottle of water, rather than running the tap until cold
  • Don’t pre-rinse dishes, just scrape and put in the dishwasher

If you're camping

  • Make sure you turn off any taps in shower and toilet facilities or after filling up your caravan or motorhome’s water tank on site
  • If you see a leak or a dripping tap, let the campsite owner/manager know

Water efficiency and climate change

Climate change means weather patterns are becoming less predictable and heatwaves and droughts are more frequent. We need to ensure a reliable supply of drinking water for everyone in the region throughout the year, even in a year with lower than average rainfall.

Together, we’re thinking about 'every drop'

Bournemouth is a fantastic place to visit. So, while you’re here, enjoying everything we have to offer, we really appreciate you showing your support for local communities by considering your water usage.

Thank you for being careful with water during your stay

To increase storage capacity on the network, we are building new reservoirs and addressing leaks, as well as helping local residents to become more water efficient at home. Visitors to the region also have an important contribution to make, so thank you for being careful with water during your stay.
