Fire Hydrants are provided for use by authorised agencies/personnel and for Fire Service use in an emergency, training environment or to replenish water supplies on appliances etc.
As a water undertaker, we are governed by The Water Industry Act 1991 and have the statutory responsibility to provide fire hydrants when requested by the Fire Authority. We also maintain fire hydrants in our area of supply.
The Fire Service is governed by the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004. Under this act, the Fire Authority must take all reasonable measures for providing and securing an adequate supply of water for extinguishing fires or protecting life and property in the event of fire. They must also have efficient arrangements to obtain information about water supplies and access to water. The Fire Authority has the responsibility to pay or arrange payment to the Water Company in respect of its costs in complying with their obligations above.
Our charges for fire hydrants are set out in our schedule of rates below. We update this schedule of rates at least once a year.
